Elio is a top-down summer tank with an asymmetric knot tied at the hem and a Vikkel (lateral) braid at the sleeves and neckline for an elevated look. Where you tie the knot sets the mood — at the waist it’s cinched and feminine; at the hip, boxier and more androgynous.

Worked seamlessly from the top down. The back yoke begins with German short rows to shape the shoulder slope and is worked flat to the underarm; the front yoke is picked up from the shoulders, shaped at the neckline with increases, then joined to a body worked in the round. At the waist the front hem divides in two, and each side is shaped with short rows into the asymmetric ties. Because it’s worked top-down, you can try it on as you go and set the length exactly where you want it.

Techniques you’ll need
German short rows and the Vikkel (lateral) braid — both are written out step by step, with linked video tutorials. Everything else is knit, purl, and simple increases.

Choosing your size
Elio is designed with −5 to 0 cm (−2 to 0”) of ease. Aim for a finished bust about 5 cm (2”) smaller than your full bust: if your bust measures 112 cm (44”), 112 − 5 = 107 cm (42¼“), so size XL (finished 105 cm / 41¼”) gives a closer fit, while 2XL is a little looser. If you’re between sizes, size down. The model has a ~78 cm (30¾“) bust and wears size XS.

The pattern includes guides for adjusting the bust, underarm depth, and body length to your own measurements.

Gauge
25 sts × 34 rows = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4”) in stockinette on 4 mm needles, after washing and blocking. Please swatch, then wash and block before measuring — these blends can grow.

Needles
4 mm (US 6) circular, 80–120 cm depending on size · 4 mm DPNs or a long circular for Magic Loop at the edges · 3.5 mm (US 4) or 3.0 mm (US 2½) for the Vikkel braid.

Yarn
Suggestion 1 (sample): Tynn Line by Sandnes Garn (53% cotton, 33% viscose, 14% linen), single strand — 150 (150) 150 (150) 150 (200) 200 (200) 200 (250) g.
Suggestion 2: Summer Linen by Sil Sil Studio (39% linen, 31% cotton, 30% nylon), two strands held together — 200 (200) 200 (250) 250 (250) 300 (300) 350 (350) g.
Any fingering-weight cotton or linen blend that meets gauge works — about 660–1100 m (720–1200 yds) depending on size.

Notions
Stitch markers · barber cords or waste yarn · tapestry needle · crochet hook (for the Vikkel braid).
