Fire Stoking Vest
Meet The Fire Stoking Vest, a 1950s inspired wardrobe staple!
The Fire Stoking Vest is a totally seamless, one piece garment worked in a charming broken rib stitch. Made using a DK weight, this vest gets whipped up in a jiffy, and with no seaming, no picking up around armholes or necklines, it’s practically finished the moment it’s off the needles!
Crocheted button loops are added on after the fact, so there isn’t any guessing of how many buttonhole rows -- you will get to make the choice of how many buttons & buttonholes when the vest is finished! This pattern comes with a thorough photo tutorial on how these button loops are made. It it tailored to those who have done little to no crochet, so don’t let that steer you away!
In addition, the Fire Stoking Vest utilizes an interesting shaping technique where the edge stitches turn the bend and go 90 degrees around the neckline and center back neck stitches. This feels totally bizarre in concept, but in practice it’s really quite simple!
Like always, my garment patterns use a body measurement x gauge system of pattern writing, making them fully size inclusive and tailored to your personal measurements. There are plenty of resources at Squid School to get you started on this method of pattern instruction!
The Fire Stoking Vest pattern is available exclusively at Squid’s School of Vintage Knitting, where there are dozens of other vintage inspired knitting patterns. Come on over and join in the fun!
