The graceful “Florrie” scarf is worked in garter stitch on small (size US 2-2.5 / 3.00 mm) needles and is elegant yet easy to knit. Simple short rows create the subtle ruffle along each edge, with increases at the ends creating a graceful flounce. Lace weight baby Merino wool and a blend of mohair and silk (double stranded throughout) create a scarf which is downy soft, strong, and light as a cloud.

The pattern is offered in two versions: one method works through from end to end while the other uses a provisional cast-on to work each ‘tail’ from the center outward.

Gauge is not critical for this pattern. However, the length and width may vary depending on your personal tension and the type of yarn you use. For a wider scarf, simply cast on more stitches. Knit to desired length.

The pattern calls for two 25 gram balls (or one 50 gram ball) of Rowan Kidsilk Haze and one 50 gram skein of Malabrigo Lace Weight 100% Baby Merino yarn, double stranded, about 470 yards of each. I have worked this up in several combinations of variegated yarns for interesting effect.
