The Frills and Fades Triangle Scarf is a wonderful knit for a beginner. The whole thing is knit in knit stitch (no purling) with a few more advanced techniques including yarn overs, knitting front and back of a stitch, and picking up stitches. I offer this pattern with both instructions on how to make your double ruffle knitting and how to make them using crochet.
What you will need:
US 5 (3.75mm) circular needle long enough to accomodate the scarf
US 7 (4.5mm) circular needle for large ruffle if you decide to use a worsted weight yarn
Size 5.5mm crochet hook (if you decide to crochet your ruffles)
Tapestry needle to darn in ends

You can use any weight yarn you like, but the suggested yarns are:
Color 1: Classic Elite Yarns Ava: 98yds
Color 2: Patons Kroy in Flax: 35yds
Color 3: Australian Superfine Merino by Cleckheaton in Burnt Red: 53yds
Color 4: King Cole Luxury Merino DK in Mustard: 86yds
Color 5: Patons Classic Wool Worsted in Navy: 61yds

The gauge isn’t very important for this project, but my guage was:
20 stitches and 36 rows =4” in garter stitch
