As the temperatures drop below zero, the edges of the sea begin to freeze. The spray whipped up from the water becomes frosty, and ice creeps up the coasts in salty lines. The Frozen Seas mittens are knit in a fisherman’s rib, to keep you warm and protected against the deep winter winds. The Frozen Seas mittens match with the Whitecaps scarf.

Sizes
There are four sizes in the pattern: 1 (18cm / 7.25” hand circumference, 2 (20cm / 8” hand circumference), 3 (22cm / 8.75” hand circumference), and 4 (24cm / 9.5” hand circumference). Find your size by measuring the circumference of your hand below your fingers (not including your thumb) and work the size closest to your measurement.

Yarn and Yardage
The sample is knit in De Rerum Natura Ulysse (100% NSW merino, 202 yards / 50g) in the colourway Poivre Blanc. The yardage is approx. 210 - 330 yards (1 - 2 skeins).

Notions
Knitting needles (DPNs or circulars), contrasting waste yarn, stitch markers, and a darning needle.

Techniques
This pattern is suitable for advanced beginner mitten knitters. It uses the knit below and purl below stitch (a link to the tutorial is in the pattern) and a peasant thumb construction.
