The Gariguette Sweater is a knitted metaphor for the first strawberry of spring: the Gariguette. Designed to keep your little companion warm, this is a fun little project that combines several different knitting techniques — perfect for learning new skills while never getting bored! It can be knitted in just a few spare hours, while dreaming of the return of warmer days.

The Gariguette Sweater is knitted top-down and seamlessly. We begin with a long 1x1 ribbed collar, followed by a motif combining colorwork and seed stitch to create the transition between the strawberry’s leafy top and the fruit.

The body is knitted in stockinette stitch, with raglan increases throughout, and finishes with another section of 1x1 ribbing.

Finally, the sleeves are finished by picking up stitches and working an applied I-cord, then the strawberry’s seeds are embroidered using Duplicate Stitch.

Size Guide:
S — Neck 16–19 cm (6¼–7½“), belly approx. 28 cm (11”), length 28 cm (11”)
M — Neck 20–22 cm (7¾–8¾”), belly approx. 34 cm (13½“), length 33 cm (13”)
L — Neck 23–25 cm (9–9¾”), belly approx. 38 cm (15”), length 36 cm (14¼“)

Gauge : 21 stitches / 30 rows in stockinette stitch on 4 mm (US 6) needles = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in) after blocking.

Needles : 4.5 mm (US 7), 4 mm (US 6), 3.5 mm (US 2.5 / US 4)

Cables : 20 cm (8 in) or longer for the body, using the Magic Loop technique if desired.
Mini circular needles or DPNs for the collar.

I recommend knitting the sweater with a DK-weight wool yarn, preferably a superwash merino, which provides softness, durability, and easy care.
