The Shelob Sweater is a tribute to weaving spiders and handmade knitting, with its irregularities and imperfections. Airy mohair meets a graphic, structured construction to create a distinctive silhouette. Designed as a layering piece, it drapes lightly over the body with a sheer effect, enveloping it in a soft halo.

The Shelob Sweater is worked top-down, in the round, and seamlessly. Begin by casting on the boat neckline, then work a few short rows to raise the back. Next, work the increases using a contiguous shoulder construction, then place the sleeve stitches on hold while working the body in the round. Afterwards, return to the held sleeve stitches to create airy, flared sleeves. Finally, shape the garment during the blocking process.

Ease : The sweater is designed with approximately 30 cm 11¾“ of positive ease at the bust.
I recommend choosing the size with a finished bust measurement as close as possible to your own bust circumference.

Gauge : Gauge : 15.5 sts × 25 rows = 10 cm × 10 cm 4” × 4” in the stitch pattern below, using 4.5 mm US 7 and 8 mm US 11 needles, after blocking and drying.

Needles : 4.5 mm US 7 and 8 mm US 11 needles (interchangeable or fixed), with 100 cm 39½“, 60 cm 23½“, and 40 cm 15¾“ cables.

Yarn : I recommend a lace-weight mohair and silk yarn. The sweater is worked holding a single strand throughout.

Meterage : 460 (475) 530 (580) 640 (755) 860 (915) 985 metres 503 (520) 580 (634) 700 (826) 940 (1,001) 1,077 yards of lace-weight yarn (25 g = 210 m 230 yd), or approximately 3 (3) 3 (3) 4 (4) 5 (5) 5 balls.
