I absolutely love scrappy socks, with lots of bright colours – they always make me smile! These socks were designed to use up leftover sock yarn, while having alternating sections with easy textures, for a relaxing but engaging knit. These socks are knitted top down, with a heel flap and gusset and feature alternating stripes of garter rib.

Thank you for all the kindness and support – I hope you enjoy making your own wearable rainbows!

Materials:
• One 2.25mm / US size 1 circular needle 100cm / 40” in length for magic loop or set of DPNs, or size needed to meet the required gauge.
• Stitch markers (2), one of which is used to mark the beginning of round.
• Tapestry needle for sewing in threads.
• Blocking materials.
• Approximately 90m (100m,125m) / 98yds (109yds,137yds) of fingering weight (sock yarn) in the Main Colour along with approximately 45m / 50yds of sock yarn for each 12-row stripe and 22m / 24yds of sock yarn for each 6-row stripe in Contrast Colours of your choosing should be suitable for most adult sizes. Note that yardage will vary dependent on size, yarn choice and on the placement of stripe in the sock, the gusset rounds will use more yardage than leg rounds for example. The yardage requirements are therefore just an estimation.

Gauge:
34 stitches and 48 rounds = 10cm / 4” in textured pattern, worked in the round and blocked.

Size:
1 (2, 3): The socks are 17.5cm (20cm, 22.5cm) / 7” (8”, 9”) in circumference. Socks are intended to fit with approximately 2.5cm – 4.5cm / 1” – 1.75” negative ease. Sample is shown in size 2.

This is just to provide extra clarity with regards to the slip stitches in the heel flap:

Row 1 (RS): Sl1 purl-wise wyib, K1, Sl1 knit-wise wyib, K1 to end.
Row 2 (WS): Sl1 purl-wise wyif, P to end.
