Ghastly Ghosties
Notes:
This is a LATE-BEGINNER to INTERMEDIATE friendly crochet pattern.
This is a create your own adventure! This pattern includes TWO base bodies – one simple beginner friendly ghostie, and one more frilly intermediate friendly ghostie. On top of this, you can customise your ghostie buddy with optional additions like arms, legs, ears and bows! You can add as many or as little of the customisations as you like – I can only imagine what an eight legged 3-armed ghostie pal would look like! This pattern is worked in a continuous spiral/round, as many amigurumi are. The stitches primarily used are the single crochet, double crochet, stacked single crochet, slip stitch, and chain. For the intermediate body it also includes back post single crochet. Increases and decreases are also used. The pieces of this pattern start with a magic circle. It is written in US terms and the measurements provided are in cm.
Extra note: I personally like to make the accessories/customisations prior to making the body so that I can sew the pieces on before stuffing. This creates what I find to be a more secure join. If you want to start with the body first, you can, but in order for the legs (if you choose to add legs!) to be attached in a no sew manner they must be made first. If you want to sew everything together in the end then you can make it in whichever order you like!
Abbreviations and stitches:
Magic circle – If you struggle with a magic circle, you can always chain 3, and then work the stitches required into the 3rd chain from hook. It will leave a tiny hole though.
Ch= chain
Sc= single crochet (Pro tip! If you do a yarn under sc rather than a yarn over sc, the gaps between stitches will be smaller and hence hide the stuffing better)
Stsc = stacked single crochet
DC= double crochet
Slst= slip stitch
FLO= front loop only
BLO= back loop only
BPSC= back post single crochet
Sc2tog = single crochet two stitches together/decrease. (an invisible decrease is also fine to use.)
Yarn: DK weight/8ply yarn, 150m. If you want to make the stripey leg version, Colour A (black) Colour B (pink)
Hook size: 3mm hook – I tend to crochet tightly though, please use a hook required to create stitches small enough to hide the stuffing!
Finished Measurements: 12cm tall, 9cm wide
You will need safety eyes, stuffing, scissors and a yarn needle.
