This is a BEGINNER friendly crochet pattern. This piece can be worked either bottom up or top down, depending on preference and comfort/confidence in tension and fit! If worked bottom up, it can be tried on throughout to ensure the perfect fit. The pattern is also easily alterable to ensure it meets your needs. The stitch primarily used is the half double crochet, but the pattern also uses the stacked single crochet, slip stitch, chain, double crochet and both front and back post double crochet. It is written in US terms and the measurements provided are in cm.
Ch= chain
Sc= single crochet
Stsc = stacked single crochet
HDC= Half double crochet
DC= double crochet
Slst= slip stitch
FPDC = front-post double crochet
BPDC = back-post double crochet
Colourwork:
While this base pattern doesn’t have any colourwork built in, stripes are always a hit! Feel free to have fun and play around with the pattern.

Yarn: 100g/200m DK weight yarn (one skein) I used a beautiful hand dyed merino, but acrylic would also suite.
Hook size: 4.5mm hook
Gauge: 17st x 13rw = 10cm x 10cm in HDC.
Flat measurement: 24cm wide, 20cm tall

This pattern is worked in joined rows. You can choose to turn or not at each row, they will both give you a slightly different texture.
