Cable Hat and Mittens set

Cable Hat and Mittens Set knitting pattern - a classic cable Hat with columns of twisting cables on a garter stitch background with a folded brim. The mittens have a central cable on the back of the hand to match the hat. Requires 100g of double-knitting wool for the hat and 100g for the mittens. They are knit using 4 mm (UK 8, US 6) knitting needles. Both the hat and mittens are knit flat and then a seam is sewn. There is one size for the hat and two sizes (a small and medium) for the mittens.

Materials
1 100g ball Stylecraft Special DK (100% acrylic, 295 m/323 yrds per 100g)
A pair of 4 mm (UK 8, US 6) knitting needles
A 4 mm cable needle
A tapestry needle
(optional) A faux fur pompom or cardboard for making a pompom

Techniques
Casting on, Casting off, Knit and Purl stitches, K1 P1 rib, Stretchy rib cast on method (photo-illustrated technique), garter stitch (knit every row).
