It may look like a cable beanie, but no stitches were crossed in the making of this hat! Instead, the Impostor Faux-Cable Beanie uses a series of front post stitch clusters which alternately increase and decrease to give the look of cables, with a simpler technique.

This hat was part of a series which will all be published together as an ebook once all six patterns are completely edited. The series is titled, “Mad About Hats! Gender Neutral Hats for Humans With Heads.”

This pattern is written for six sizes: Youth S/L, Adult S/M/L/XL. Meant to have a somewhat loose, cozy fit, with a row of sl st at the end to keep it from being overly loose. If you prefer your hat very snug, you could go down a hook size and add extra rows of brim as necessary.

Youth S – Should fit most younger school-aged children (roughly ages 4-8, depending on your child)
Youth L – Should fit older children to pre-teens. Most teenagers will wear an adult hat size.

Due to the nature of patterns, no returns can be made; however I am happy to provide pattern support on ravelry or facebook, so please ask if you’re stuck!

Difficulty: 2.5/5
Recommended yarn: Best results will be achieved with a yarn that has a listed knit gauge of 18st/inch like Caron Simply Soft, I Love This Yarn, or similar; I recommend something with a smooth texture as I feel like fuzzy yarns don’t show the pattern as well.)
Recommended hook size: K (6.50mm) hook or as needed to meet gauge check after round 7
Gauge: A gauge check is provided at the end of round 7
