This is a pattern that will work in any gauge and any yarn, just make sure you use hook of apropriate size (a bit smaller than yarn calls for).

To make this spider I used:

small amount of 8/4 yarn in black, I worked with double thread and hook no 3,5 mm
polyester fiberfill
blunt end needle
stitch marker
yarn scraps in off white
