La bandana Joplin estará disponible el 17 de octubre.
Joplin es una ciudad de Missouri que se encuentra en la Ruta 66; en las afueras de esta ciudad se sitúa la frontera entre Missouri y Kansas, lugar donde se ambienta el libro “El maravilloso mago de Oz”, de L. Frank Baum. En este pintoresco lugar podrás encontrar “el camino de baldosas amarillas”, el mismo que tenía que seguir Dorothy hasta la Ciudad Esmeralda.
La bandana Joplin está tejida en circular de un extremo a otro y su textura recuerda al camino de baldosas amarillas. Una vez hayas tejido el largo indicado de tu bandana según la talla elegida, deberás coser los extremos utilizando la puntada de colchón o “mattress stitch”, no sin antes doblar tu bandana para darle un toque más sofisticado.
Técnicas utilizadas
Para poder tejer la bandana Joplin tendrás que saber montar y cerrar puntos, tejer del derecho, tejer del revés, deslizar puntos, saber trabajar la técnica del punto mosaico y saber coser con la técnica de la puntada de colchón o “mattress stitch”.
Agujas recomendadas
Agujas circulares de 3’5 mm (US 4) con un cable de, al menos, 20 cm. También puedes usar mini agujas circulares de 23 cm, agujas de doble punta o agujas circulares con un cable más largo para trabajar con la técnica de magic loop, si esa es tu elección o tejes las tallas más pequeñas. Puedes utilizar el número de aguja que necesites para ajustar tu tensión.
Lana
Lana grosor DK (193 m en 100 gr) en dos colores diferentes, o lana grosor fingering unida a una lana de grosor lace. La cantidad de lana utilizada dependerá de la talla y del largo de la bandana. Yo he utilizado, para una bandana talla adulto S, 47 gr del CP, 11 gr del CC y 4 gr de mohair.
Muestra de tensión*
20 puntos por 36 vueltas en un cuadrado de 10 x 10 cm, tejido en redondo con agujas de 3’5 mm (US 4) y con la textura del diseño, después del bloqueo.
Tallas
La bandana Joplin se presenta en diferentes tallas, que se corresponden con la circunferencia de la cabeza, medida por la parte más ancha. Ten en cuenta, a la hora de elegir la talla, que la bandana tiene holgura negativa.
-Bebé: 30’5 cm (para una circunferencia entre 35’5 cm y 40’5 cm)
-Niña de 1 a 3 años: 35 cm (para una circunferencia entre 40’5 cm y 46 cm)
-Niña mayor de 3 años: 38’5 cm (para una circunferencia entre 45’5 cm y 51 cm)
-Adolescente: 43 cm (para una circunferencia entre 51 cm y 56 cm)
-Adulto S: 44 cm (para una circunferencia entre 53 cm y 58 cm)
-Adulto M/L: 47 cm (para una circunferencia entre 56 cm y 61 cm)
El ancho de la bandana variará en función de la talla, e irá desde los 5 a los 12 cm.
Medidas
Las dimensiones de la bandana dependerán de la talla elegida. La bandana que se muestra en la portada mide 45 cm de largo por 12 cm de ancho.

The Joplin headband will be available on October, 17th.
Joplin is a city in Missouri located along historical Route 66; on the outskirts lies the Missouri–Kansas border, the setting for the book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by L. Frank Baum. In this picturesque place you can find “the yellow brick road,” the very path Dorothy had to follow to reach the Emerald City.
The Joplin headband is worked in the round, from end to end, and its texture recalls the yellow brick road. Once you have knitted the required length for your chosen size, twist the headband for a more chic look, then seam the ends together using mattress stitch.
Skills required
Pattern requires the following skills: knit, purl, cast on and bind off stitches, slip stitches, work with two strands of yarn using mosaic knitting and knowledge about how to seam with mattress stitch technique.
Recommended needle size
US 4 (3’5 mm) mini circular needles (23 cm), or US 4 (3’5 mm) circular needles either at least 80 cm long to use magic loop, or DPN’s if that’s your choice or if you knit the smaller sizes. You can use another needle size to obtain gauge.
Yarn
DK weight yarn (193 m / 100 g) in two different colors, or fingering weight yarn held together with a lace weight yarn. The amount of yarn you will need will depend on your size choosen. To give you an idea, I used for size adult S, 47 gr of main color, 11 gr of CC and 4 gr of lace weight yarn.
Gauge
20 stitches and 36 rows in texture pattern stitch over 4 inches (10 centimeters), on US 4 (3’5 mm) needles, knitting in the round, after blocking.
Sizes
The Joplin headband has different sizes, based on your head circumference around the widest part of the head. To choose your size, remember that the Joplin headband has negative ease.
-Baby: 12 inches (head circumference between 14 and 16 inches)
-Toddler: 13 ¾ inches (head circumference between 16 and18 inches)
-Child: 15 ¼ inches (head circumference between 18 and 20 inches)
-Teenager: 17 inches (head circumference between 20 and 22 inches)
-Adult S: 17 ½ inches (head circumference between 21 and 22 ¾ inches)
-Adult M/L: 18 ½ inches (head circumference between 22 and 24 inches)
The width of the headband will change depending on the size chosen, ranging from 2 to 4 ¾ inches.
Dimensions
The dimensions of the headband will be different according to the size chosen. The headband in the cover measures 17 ¾ inches (45 cm) long and 4 ¾ inches (12 cm) wide.
