Just Enough Cowl
Abbreviated! A classic and elegant cowl worked with two
yarns held double for a soft, cozy halo.
Short & sweet, with a flattering fit and a soft mohair halo, this two-size cowl will add warmth to your wardrobe with very
little effort. The simple, classic shape is perfect for layering, and is kept short to fit under a jacket but long enough to keep your shoulders cozy.
Size:
Size 1 fits S-L, size 2 fits L-XL.
Finished cowl shown is size 1, on a model who normally wears a commercial size L/39” bust. It will be longer and a bit roomier on someone more petite. Pattern can easily be modified larger to fit a larger bust.
Skill level required:
This cowl is an adventurous beginner knit, with basic increases and finishing.
Materials:
- 2 (3) skeins All Points North Yarn Co. Divine DK (100% superwash merino, 235y/100g) in colour When Doves Cry.
- 2 (3) balls Drops Kid-Silk (230y/25g) in colour 10 Grey.
- 5mm (US 8) circular needles in 16”, 24”, and 32”, and 4mm (US 6) circular in 32” for ribbing.
- 5 markers, with one different to mark beginning of round.
- wool needle to weave in ends.
Gauge:
18 sts/27 rows = 4” stockinette in the round
with yarns held double – on 5mm (US 8)
needle, blocked.
While this pattern was designed for a DK merino held double with a lace weight Mohair-Silk blend (my personal favourite!), it may also be knit with other yarns, as long as they meet gauge, such as:
- Your favourite worsted/aran weight
- Fingering weight held double with Mohair Silk
- Suri Silk or Mohair Silk held double
