Kat no. 10 was designed for our Fall Knitathon 2026. I wanted to create a thoroughly cozy sweater to snuggle into on those lovely dark days — one that was still pretty enough it would look as though you’d actually made an effort!
I also wanted to create a sweater that could be knitted in all kinds of yarn, from fine to thick. In this pattern I help you learn how to adjust the stitch counts to suit exactly the yarn you want to use. I’ve knitted several versions, from fingering weight all the way up to bulky!
Kat no. 10 is perfect for a walk, relaxing on the sofa, wearing over pajama pants, or even for a festive evening out. The sleeves are narrow enough to wear a jacket over the sweater easily, and the V-neck allows for all sorts of dressing-up bling, necklaces and scarves.
It’s a fairly simple sweater, worked from the top down and mostly in the round. You begin at the neckline and shoulders, which are shaped with increases. The work is then divided, and the front and back are worked down to the bottom of the narrow armholes. The body is joined and worked in the round. Stitches are picked up for the sleeves, which are also worked in the round.
Despite its simple construction, I probably wouldn’t recommend it as a first sweater. There’s quite a lot to keep track of at the beginning, with increases at different intervals and in different places, and that may feel overwhelming if you’ve never knitted a sweater before. On the other hand, nothing here is particularly difficult — it just calls for a lot of attention and focus at the beginning of the work.
