The knot is made up of several strands sewn together. Each knot strand is shaped using increases and decreases to determine the curvature. The outlines are added with slip stitches. The pattern is suitable for a motivated beginner, and includes a detailed phototutorial.

The knot can be worked in any gauge. A swatch of 10 stitches and 11 rows should make a square, but the size of that square doesn’t matter. The side length of the final piece will be about 6.5 times the length of a 10-sc swatch. (So if your swatch is 2 inches wide, then the final piece will be a square with side length about 13 inches.)

I used Loops and Threads Impeccable Solids and a 4mm hook. A 10 sc swatch was about 2.5” wide, and the finished piece is about 17” on a side. It took slightly less than one skein of the main colour (around 200 metres) and under half a skein of the outline colour (around 100 metres).

In addition to the usual materials, the pattern uses running stitch markers. You can make these out of scraps of contrasting yarn and masking tape.

The basic method of this pattern is drawn from A General Method for Crocheted Knotwork, with some adaptations.
