I love mosaic stitch patterns and I was thinking of a relaxed, cozy, weekend version of a professor’s jacket with tweed patches. I went to university on an old campus with terrific brick buildings shaded by huge, old, Pacific NW deciduous trees. I thought how lovely it would be to stroll the grounds on a brisk autumn day in this shawl. Is there a place or a time that inspires you to knit this shawl?

Yarn: I found the Mosaic Moon Gradient Set at my local fiber festival. I fell in love instantly. One of my favorite color palettes moving from a brighter optimistic turquoise through various shades adding depth and darkness with the deepening teal color and black specks, all set off with surprising but complementary deep red flecks. I loved the moodiness that this yarn evoked. The same day I found the absolutely luscious merino silk blend of Greenwood Fibers in a deep red that really played on the specks in the gradient. Even though it was DK I bought it anyway and knew that it could work together somehow. The yarn chose this pattern and I really love how the mosaic and contrast work. However this will also work beautifully in a variety of other color combinations or styles. I can’t wait to see some more interpretations.

Featured Yarn: Mosaic Moon Laurel Sport - 6 skein Nymphadora Gradient Set (~385 yards & 4 oz. per skein) - 100% super wash merino & Greenwood Silky Sheep DK - 2 skeins Magenta (~231 yards & 4 oz. per skein) - 50% super wash merino, 50% silk

Yardage Requirements: S (700 yards), M (1,100 yards), L (1,530 yards), XL (2,260 yards) - Please keep in mind these are estimates based on my gauge. No guarantees can be made on how many yards you will use or how many come in your skeins.

Needles: US5 (40-60” circular needles depending on size shawl you are knitting) and US6 or US7 (40-60” circular needles depending on size shawl you are knitting) - I used US7 in my mosaic section because I was also using a DK contrast yarn, you may want to use US6 if you stick with another Sport weight yarn for your contrast

Notions: 2 stitch markers, 1 tapestry needle

Gauge: 18 sts & 34 rows = 4” blocked garter swatch
