LC MITTENS
…………………………………….

Will it be Coffee or Tea? Flowers or Chocolates? Purple or Green? Well, perhaps you don’t need to decide and can have it all!

A sister pattern to the LC Beanie, the LC (Low Commitment) Mittens offer a quick and elegant way to keep your hands warm, with - you guesses it - minimal commitment required. Start off with only 4 stitches, and decide the rest as you go along!

Instructions are offered in Chunky, Aran, and DK weights, which can be achieved by marling together multiple strands of finer yarns.

FURTHER NOTES ON CONSTRUCTION

There are two features worth noting about these mittens.

(1) The top-down construction is designed in a way that does not require closing a gap, thereby avoiding complicated cast-ons or grafting.

(2) The thumb is designed with an elegant, streamlined shape that is less jutty-outy than a standard side-thumb gusset.

NOTES ON YARN SELECTION

Although this pattern offers instructions in several yarn weights, in my opinion the LC Mittens are at their best when knitted in chunky weight. If you do not already have chunky yarn, this weight can be achieved by holding together 3 strands of fingering or sport weight yarns (such as sock yarn), or holding together 2 strands of Dk yarn. For solid colour mittens, use all 3 strands in the same colour. Or for a unique marled effect, each strand can be a different colour.

Likewise, note that 2 strands of sportweight yarn can be held together to create an Aran-wright equivalent, or 2 strands of fingering weight to create a DK-equivalent.
