Leaves of Lothlorien Socks
These socks are knit from the cuff down, ribbed cuff, lace instep, stockinette sole, basic heel flap and gusset (worked with lace) and rounded toe. Directions are given for magic loop, N1 contains instep stitches and N2 contains the sole stitches, although h feel free to divide for double point needles if you prefer.
Sizes: S(M)L; Small – 7”/18cm, M- 8”/20cm, L – 9”/20cm
Gauge: 34 stitches over 4”/10cm in stockinette stitch (blocked)
Needles: 2.25mm/US 1 using either: 40” circular for magic loop or Double Point Needles
Yarn: estimated 200 yards of sock/fingering; sample was knit in Pink Oyster Shell from Monarch Knitting: Fanshell Fingering (80% Superwash Merino Wool, 20% Nylon)
**** Note: I used 193 yards/50g for the sample which was knit in a medium size for a women’s shoe size 8.5
**** Note: This pattern was test knit in a variety of yarns, while all look fantastic I found the lace really stands out when lighter colors and fewer speckles are chosen.
Notions: Removable stitch marker(s), tapestry needle, scissors
Techniques beyond Knits and Purls:
K2tog – knit two stitches together.
P2tog – Purl two together
SSK – Slip, Slip Knit; Slip two stitches knitwise, one at a time, then knit the two stitches together through the backloop.
CDD – Central Double Decrease: slip two stitches knitwise, knit next stitch, using the left needle pass the slipped stitches over the knit stitch.
YO – Yarn over; wrap yarn over the needle to create a new stitch.
KFB – Knit stitch without dropping the on the left-hand needle immediately knit into it again through the backloop. Drop mother stitch. One stitch increased.
