This cozy, classic triangle is an adaptable shawl for just a few colors or up to 25.

Inspired by letters & friendship

Letters Home is the result of an inspiring collaboration with Rachel of Six & Seven Fiber, and it features her richly colored advent yarn set.

Though we live far apart, Rachel and I have become fast friends through our shared projects, starting with the Lunar Phase Knitalong. Working with the theme of handwritten letters and correspondence, we have chatted, shared photos, and mailed each other packages of yarn and tea and sketches.

Knit along with us

We’re having a fun and easy knitalong for those making any version of this shawl. Dig in your stash or knit using your six and seven advent yarn. The KAL began 12/26 and will go through the end of January. Join in here:

An adaptable pattern

I include written instructions, charts for the small colorwork section (optional), and suggestions to modify for a smaller a shawl (shown in bottom photo) or for fewer colors.

It’s possible to do a very simple version that celebrates each color in turn, with stockinette and Garter ridges, or to do any combination of the slip stitch patterns given.

Sample shown uses 25 colors of DK yarn.

  • One main color (about 245 yards)
  • 24 minis, for a total of about 700 yards/640 meters

Smaller sample uses the scraps leftover from the large shawl and a quite simplified set of stitch patterns.
