As a little girl, she had loved to imagine that her simple knit dress was actually a fancy ball gown worn by a princess. Today, slipping on her beautifully embroidered socks, she couldn’t help but imagine that she was perhaps a young Queen Victoria wearing such elegant socks. Kids cry, the tea kettle whistles and the oven is preheated – pouring a fresh cup of tea she is brought back to reality – one that she doesn’t mind.

Liberty Flowers is a cuff-down sock with an elaborate knit-in embroidery design that starts in the cuff and is worked down to the toe. While not difficult, the embroidery design does take some extra time and concentration – but the result will be the most beautiful pair of socks you own. Most of my testers had never tried the techniques used in this design before, yet all of their socks came out beautifully.

The floral design was inspired by my modern teacup which was a collaboration with Anthropologie and Liberty of London. The design has tightly grouped flowers with bits of sprigs or leaves along the sides – this element, along with my color choices were inspired directly by the cup.

This is the second design in the Teacup Sock Collection II. Duchess Rose was the first pattern. A third pattern will be released later this year to complete he collection. The eBook can be purchased now for $7.50 and will go up in price once the entire collection is complete.

The pattern is written in five sizes: XS {S, M, L and XL} to fit a foot circumference of approximately 7.5 {8, 8.5, 9, 9.25}” / 19 {20.5, 21.5, 22.5, 23.5} cm.

Yarn requirements for the pattern are as follows:

  • 35-65 grams (150-285) yds or 140 - 260 meters) of fingering weight yarn.
  • 15 grams (65 yds or 60 meters) of CC1.
  • 10 grams (45 yds or 40 meters) of CC2.
  • 5 grams (20 yds or 20 meters) of CC3 and CC4.
