Lopi Magic Hat is a quick knit and the matching hat to the Lopi Magic sweater. It’s also a perfect way to use any leftover yarn from the sweater!

The hat is knitted from the bottom up. It starts with an I-cord cast on and corrugated ribbing to match the collar and cuffs of the sweater.

Just like the sweater, you can knit it with chunky Álafosslopi, Aran-weight Léttlopi or with one strand of Plötulopi held double with one strand of Love Story. All three are knitted at the same gauge with the same needles, but create different textures and weights for a dense, squishy or super light hat. That’s where the lopi magic lies: full of air, the lopi will adapt itself to the needles used and always look good. Knit it tight and it will stay that way, knit it loose and it will bloom, filling in the gaps.

Height: 20,5(22,5) cm / 8(8¾)”
Circumference at largest: 55.5(64) cm / 21¾(21¼)”
to fit head 53-58.5(56-61) cm / 20¾-22¾(22-24)” in circumference.
You can obtain more Sizes by changing needle size.

Gauge: 10 cm / 4” = 13 sts and 19 rnds in Stocking stitch on 7 mm / US 10¾ needle.

Wool
There are 3 options, from the lightest to the heaviest but all are knitted with the same size needle at the same gauge.
• 1 strand Plötulopi + 1 strand Love Story
Plötulopi from Ístex: 100% new wool, unspun, 100-110 g plate = approx. 300 m/328 yds: 1 plate in each color
Love Story Einband by Hélène Magnússon: 100% new wool, pure Icelandic lambswool, very fine lace weight, 1 ply, 25 g skein = 225 m / 246 yds: 1 skein per color
• Léttlopi (or 2 strands plötulopi) from Ístex: 100% new wool, loosely spun, Aran weight, 50 g skein = 100 m /109 yds: 1 skein in each color
• Álafosslopi (or 3 strands plötulopi) from Ístex: 100% new wool, loosely spun, chunky weight, 100 g skein = 100 m /109 yds: 1 skein in each color

Needles: 6 mm and 7 mm / US 10 and 10¾ circular needles. Magic loop is used but you can also use double-pointed needles. Note that not all brands carry the US 10¾ needle size.
