This is the bandana version of Make your Marl (you may wish to look at that pattern as well for yarn ideas). #

The bandana can be made with 2 yarns held together (such as a fine mohair and a heavier yarn), but also works well with a single yarn).

It’s best to avoid yarns with pronounced stripes as they can “fight” with the stitch pattern, but subtle shading in one or both yarns can yield spectacular results.

If you use 2 yarns with very high contrast, the “ragg” effect may also obscure the pattern, so generally it’s best to go for a slightly more subtle effect (you can browse the projects for this pattern and the shawl version for inspiration).

The bandana is knitted flat and then joined with a short seam.
