The Makoto socks are knitted in the round on double-pointed needles from the cuff down to the toe. If you prefer the Magic Loop technique, you can use circular needles. The socks feature a double cuff (in stockinette st) around the ankles, and you can choose whether to knit with or without a flap at the back of the ankle. There is a pattern st on the front of the sock and behind the ankle. The back of the sock, the gusset on the sides, the heel, and the toe are knitted in stockinette st.

I have provided sizes S, M, and L. Size S fits those with narrow feet, M for those with regular foot width, and L for those with wide feet. Foot length and width do not necessarily correlate, so I have separated the two.
If you have narrow feet and wear size 39, you should follow the instructions for size S and choose the length that suits your foot when you get to that point.
