What you will get

This nearly full circle shawl pattern includes:

  • written instructions in US terms and UK terms to make the sample shown (measuring 360 cm or 142” around the outer edge cm and 54 cm or 21.5” in width);
  • crochet charts showing the entire pattern as a wedge that is repeated as many times as you want;
  • an easy read or mobile friendly version for both US terms and UK terms.

About the pattern

This is an experienced beginner crochet pattern for a crescent-shaped shawl with a unique construction, similar to pi shawl shaping in knitting.

The shawl sits easily on the shoulders because of the rounded top edge.

It can be made either in a long gradient or a single color.

The increases are illustrated by simple columns of eyelets that divide the shawl into narrower sections as you reach the outer edge. You can make fewer or more panels for a shawl that covers more or less of the body.

This creates the illusion of many petals, like those of the marigold.

The increase formula can be followed to make the shawl larger, depending on the desired finished size.

Skill level - Experienced beginner: you will use double crochet stitches, chains and pattern repeats.

Notions

  • Yarn - between 1000-1200 meters of size 2 cotton or cotton blend yarn with 400 m per 100 g; you can use 1.5 gradient cakes or get a custom 1000-1200 m gradient cake;
  • Hook – 2.5 to 4 mm crochet hook or hook that gets you gauge;
  • Scissors and tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
  • Blocking pins and mats.
  • Optional: stitch markers.

In sample: Yarnart Rosegarden (1000 meters per 250 g cake, 100% cotton) – 1 full cake in colorway 309.
