This pattern was inspired by an Alpaca in the Columbia River Gorge. Visiting Cedar Creek Alpacas (the source of the fiber for this hat), you can’t miss Maya who is always comically rumbled with hay sticking out everywhere. She is affectionately referred to as “pigpen” because she continuously rolls in the dirt. The fiber processor recognizes her fleece and knows her by name because of the number of times they have to wash her fiber to get it clean. The record is ten. The rest of the herd maintains their beautiful fleece with restraint and dignity.

This pattern uses floating strand color work (charted) and includes a video recommendation.
