The Melon sweater is a top down, seamless garment knit in the round using a contiguous method. The all-over long slip stitch pattern gives a vibrancy and depth to the fabric that is enhanced by the i-cords running from the neckline to the cuffs, framing the silhouette for a striking and modern look. The resulting combination of textures and lines is reminiscent of melon skins, hence the name of the design. The color possibilities are endless: tonals, variegated, speckles, self-striping, mini skeins sets, leftovers, everything will work wonders as a contrast color peeking through a solid main color… Or the opposite!
The pattern includes optional short rows to raise the back neck and widen the back, as well as horizontal bust darts to ensure a great fit to all kinds of melons out there :)

The garment is designed to have a snug fit around the shoulders, which is why the sizing uses chest measurement (upper bust rather than full bust). Selecting a size based on your full bust will result in a baggy fit around the shoulders, and a neckline that is too wide for your frame, whereas negative ease at your full bust with a contoured fit around your shoulders will look awesome (see pictures ;). There is detailed guidance in the pattern on how to select a size depending on your body type, and how to modify it if needed.

To see different versions of the pattern knit in various yarns, sizes, fibers and colors, you can check out the testers version under the “Project” tab or the #MelonSweater on Instagram.
