Mini Amy March
Purchase all four mini March mittens for $18.00!
The Mini Amy March Mittens incorporate all of the charming characteristics as their grown up version into a tiny little package designed for sweet little hands.
Amy, the ambitious artist. She is determined, intelligent, and works hard to improve herself. As the youngest of the four, she is very aware of the grown up world around her and learns to see life in practical terms. She sets high, though realistic, goals for herself and strives to achieve them by channeling her ambition into painting. She ultimately marries for love rather than money and together she and Laurie share their prosperity with those in need.
Amy’s mittens depict flowers like those she learned to paint, lacy motifs to symbolize her elegant taste. The picot edging is inspired by the lace-trimmed garments of the Civil War era. I’ve always loved the flower-petal-like flare of lace cuffs or collars and chose a subtle interpretation that matches the March family’s economic history and status. The Latvian braids are inspired by the hand-knotted friendship bracelets that I used to make as a girl.
All of the March sisters’ mittens, big and small, include the picot edging and the right leaning Latvian braid. These two design elements ground each sister’s design in history, femininity, and the bond of sisterly love.

CONSTRUCTION
The Mini Amy March Mittens are worked from the cuff to the fingertips. They begin with the picot edging, which is left unfolded until the end, and is followed by the right leaning Latvian braid. The hand colorwork is knit according to the Mitten Chart up to the thumb location. The thumb hole is created via the afterthought thumb method and thumb sts are held on waste yarn while the remaining Mitten rnds are worked. When the hand is complete, thumb sts are transferred from waste yarn to your needles and the thumb is worked according to the Thumb Chart. To finish, the CO edge is turned inside the cuff and whip stitched in place.
