This adorable little hat ornament mimics the look of granny stitch in miniature. Requires a total of about 12 yards of worsted weight yarn. Overall size is about 3” tall, before adding the pompom. Works up very quickly and includes instructions for a simple “puff stitch pompom” option that you can use in place of a traditional one. They’re perfect for hanging on the tree, stringing on garland, adorning a wreath, or using as charming gift toppers! (May even fit some dolls and toys!)

Great project for using up scrap pieces; the colors can really be customized however you like. I often prefer acrylic yarn for items like this, as it won’t attract insects in storage and tends to make a sturdier piece. But there is no reason you couldn’t use a blend or a lovely natural fiber to create a special, heirloom-quality gift. While I recommend a heavier worsted weight yarn, experimenting with different yarn and hook sizes can yield a range of beautiful results.
