An elongated boomerang shape with eyelet edges, this scarf has the effect of being knitted on the bias but the main feature is the chunky and at the same time lacy, purl-less rib.

Thank you Leonie Thornley for sharing this clever stitch technique from your mother’s knitting book (see Scoundrel: Brioche Rib Scarf on Ravelry.com)

Like all minimal knits | DESIGNED scarves, MK#25 drapes beautifully, can be worn in all sorts of ways, and is quick to knit because the pattern uses needles larger than is standard for the yarn.

However although it’s easy to knit, on several occasions I made a mistake - dropped a stitch or noticed that I’d muddled the rib stitches a row or three back. And because of the structure of the knit 1 below stitches that form the purl-less rib - the pattern contains detailed instructions and photos showing how to make them - I found it a bit challenging to fix those mistakes and get going again. It didn’t take me long to realise I needed to knit a bit more slowly and carefully than usual.

The pictured scarf was made from a 100g skein of gorgeous Bombed Yarns 4ply merino silk in the colour Sapphire and measures 83 cm / 36¾ inches, by 134 cm / 56¾ inches, by 195 cm / 76½ inches without blocking.

Materials
Between 380 and 420 metres / 416 and 459 yards of Fingering/Sock/4 ply yarn
Please note that some yarns knit up more closely than others and if knitted with yarn at the lower end of the quantity range it may require blocking to achieve a practical length and to smooth out the edges
5 mm / US 8 needles

Gauge
Doesn’t matter unless you knit very tightly or very loosely, in which case go up or down a needle size, as applicable
