Modest Mitts were born out of necessity. To be honest, I just really needed a simple pair of little mitts that would protect my knuckles from the wind and weather, but short enough so I could still wear my watch. I had this precious fingering weight yarn dyed by Tayler of Fiber for the People, a super special skein of her “Kick Drum” colorway that I had been savoring for the longest time. I knew it would be perfect for these quick little mitts and in an afternoon, my beautiful Modest Mitts were on my hands. Requiring very low yardage, you can make a pair from a super special skein if you have (or want) leftover yarn!

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
6.25 (7.5, 8.5)“ / 16.5 (19, 21.5) cm palm and wrist circumference
4.5 (5.5, 6.25)” / 11.5, (14, 16) cm long

Both left and right mitts are worked the same, so just grab them and throw them on! They’re meant to be short and hit right around the wrist bone.

SELECTING SIZE: 1 (2, 3)

These mitts are meant to fit snugly, with some negative ease. Measure the circumference of your hand around the palm and knuckles while holding your hand flat. Pick the size .25 - .75” (1-2cm) smaller than your measurement. If you are in between sizes, select the smaller size. If you are a loose knitter, please swatch or go down a needle size.

For mitts that wear well and retain their shape, choose a yarn with mostly wool content, like a sock yarn. Plant fibers like silk or cotton may not work for this pattern.
