Monique
Monique shawl is a top down, triangle heart shaped shawl which I’ve designed for my friend. I wanted to make something quite big, squishy and warm in her favourite colours.
Monique shawl is using combination of simple stitches - stockinette, garter and seed. Sections are short but entertaining as I didn’t want knitting the shawl to be boring.
Shawl is big, last row has 433 stitches.
Finished Measurements:
Sample shawl is 134 cm/53 inches wide and 84 cm/33 inches height after blocking.
A: 134cm /53’’
B: 134cm/ 53’’
C: 84cm/ 33’’
Gauge:
In pattern you have 3 different stitches: Garter, stockinette and seed stitch. For each of these my gauge was 16 sts to 4’’/10cm after blocking. But when it comes to number of rows per 4’’/ 10 cm it differed. Also, it was hard to count as parts with stockinette stitch are thinner than 4’’/10 cm. In sample shawl I had: 10 rows to 2’’/5 cm for seed stitch, 28 rows to 4’’/10cm for garter stitch and 6 rows to 1’’/2,5cm of stockinette stitch.
Materials:
Regarding yarn – any DK yarn which has around 225m/100g will be fine as substitute for yarns mentioned below.
Colour A: light grey – Drops Karisma Uni Colour, colour 44, 100g = 200m/ 218 yds, 100% wool
Colour B: pink – Drops Karisma Uni Colour, colour 33, 100g = 200m/ 218yds, 100% wool
Colour C: light blue – WYS Illustrious, colour 807 Ocean Marl, 100g = 225m/245yds, 70% Falkland Wool, 30% Alpaca
Colour D: navy – Cat and Sparrow UK, Lone Ranger DK single, colour Thetis, 100g = 225m/245 yds, 100% superwash Merino
I do recommend using natural fibres or mix of natural and artificial yarn.
Needles
US 6 = 4.00 mm.
Use circular needles with long cable 120cm/ 47’’
Other notions: 4 stitch markers removable, blocking wires (optional) and pins for blocking
Pattern notes:
Shawl is symmetric triangle knitted from the top.
Note that gauge is not crucial, but it will affect required yardage and finished size. At the end of the pattern you will find table helping follow usage of yarn per section.
I divided shawl into sections. After each section you will find table with information how many rows was knitted and how many stitches per row you should have if you follow the pattern. If you decide to skip any section, you need to adjust count of stitches accordingly.
I have prepared 2 versions of English pattern: British and American. If you find any error in the files, I would appreciate if you could let me know that.
Happy knitting !!!
