The moon jelly skirt is a two-layered skirt inspired by moon jellies! The skirt features an inner skirt with copious frills and a mesh outer skirt that can be ruched to create the soft, rounded shape of a moon jelly. Optional jellyfish frills may be added to the bottom to create a truer silhouette. The perfect skirt for summer, if I do say so myself ⋅˚₊‧ ଳ⋆.ೃ࿔:・

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A PATTERN PDF; NOT A PHYSICAL ITEM. This pattern was made in collaboration with Raii (@byhazymoon), with a sister pattern available on her page named crystal jelly.

The pattern features:

  • A customizable design (e.g., mini to maxi length, no ruching to dramatic ruching, optional jellyfish frills, optional short rows on back of skirt)
  • Written instructions with accompanying photos & some videos for more difficult stitches
  • A tester lookbook so you can figure out what type of jelly skirt you’d like to make c:

Additional notes:

  • Language: English
  • Terminology: US
  • Level of difficulty: intermediate crocheters and up. This is a complex skirt with a complex design. Although the pattern is written step-by-step, beginners may struggle with making this if they are not comfortable with the skills listed below.
  • Skills: basic crochet stitches (e.g., CH, SC, DC, etc), increasing, crochet short rows, assembling pieces together (some light sewing required if you make jellyfish frills), draping and securing ruched areas and jellyfish frills).
  • The pattern is made-to-measure to ensure that the garment will fit you how you’d like. Therefore, there are no exact stitch or row counts in the pattern.

Materials:

  • Recommended yarn: lace-sport weight (size 0-2) yarn. I used drops safran (sport weight) in the color white (I dyed it with tea) for the inner skirt & unlabeled gradient brown cotton yarn (fingering weight) from aliexpress for the outer skirt. I HIGHLY recommend using yarn that’s not as heavy for the outer skirt (e.g., acrylic, mohair, wool, cotton blend, etc).
  • Please see tester lookbook to determine how gauge how much yarn you may need.
  • Recommended hook size: 3mm hook or any hook that matches the gauge + a hook that is 0.5mm larger than that. (You will need other hook sizes if you choose to use a different weight yarn for your outer skirt.)
  • Tape measure, scissors, yarn needle & stitch markers.
