Moss on Trees hat is a fun knit, with a textured pattern created using only knits and purls. The pattern is unisex and designed for two sizes, so you can make one for you and one for a friend.
The stitch pattern for the body of the hat is provided in both written and charted form. Decreases are written only.

Sizing: Size M (L) to suit 56 (61) cm/22 (24) inches head. Height after blocking: 21.5cm (8.5 inches). Yarn weight and needle size determine the final beanie size. Size M is slightly slouchy on a woman but can be worn with the band folded for a more fitted hat. Size L makes a fitted beanie on a man.

Gauge for size M: 26 st and 39 rows in pattern in 10 cm/4 inches) after blocking, using 3.75 mm (US 5) needles and dk weight yarn.
Gauge for size L: 21.5 st and 33 rows using 4.5mm (US 7) needles and worsted or aran weight yarn.

Needle size is a recommendation and you may need to change needle size to meet gauge. Differences in gauge will affect the size of the finished item. You can use a short circular, a long circular using magic loop or on dpns. If using a short circular, you will need to swap to dpns or magic loop as you work the crown.

Yarn: approx 125-145m (145-160 yards) of dk or worsted weight yarn. Yarn estimates include a 10% safety margin.

Other supplies: Yarn needle, 5 stitch markers (1 unique beginnng of round marker), tape measure, balloon for blocking (optional).
