Nascent Cable Cowl
In July this year I set out to knit the alphabet, and this is my N knit and is inspired by the word Nascent, where I wished to capture the idea of budding growth with the twisted, sweeping cables.
Materials:
• One 4mm / US size 6 circular needle, 40cm / 16” in length, or size needed to meet the required gauge.
• One 3.75mm / US size 5 circular needle, 40cm / 16” in length, or one size smaller than needed to meet the required gauge.
• 3 (4, 5) Stitch markers, optional, one of which is used to mark the beginning of round.
• Tapestry needle for sewing in threads.
• Blocking materials.
• Worsted weight yarn, approximately 135m (190m, 238m) / 148yds (208yds, 260yds) for Chart A or approximately 182m (243m, 305m) / 199yds (266yds, 334yds) for Chart B. The sample is shown in size 1, using chart A and is worked in Malabrigo Rios – 100% Superwash Merino Wool, 192m / 210yds per 100g, in the Fresco y Seco Colourway.
Gauge:
28 stitches and 30 rows = 10cm / 4” in cable knitting, worked in the round and blocked.
Size:
Three sizes: 1 (2, 3). The cowl measures 45cm (59cm, 74cm) / 18” (23”, 29”) in circumference and is 20cm / 8” in height using Chart A or 25cm / 10” in height using Chart B as given. The width of the cowl is easily adaptable by adding multiples of 42 stitches, the height of the cowl is easily adaptable using Chart B by working multiples of Rounds 8-55.
