Nort Ness Beanie
The beanie is a stranded knitting design, worked from the bottom up, using a maximum of two shades of yarn in each round. The sizing is for an average head size of 55 – 60cm. Depending on your personal sizing preference, the same pattern is knitted following needle recommendations for the snug fit or the roomy fit.

Materials
Snug fit: 3.00mm circular needle (40.00cm), 3.50mm circular needle (40.00cm), 3.50mm dpns (double pointed needles) length 20cm & a darning/tapestry needle.
Roomy fit: 3.50mm circular needle (40.00cm), 4.00mm circular needle (40.00cm), 4.00mm dpns (double pointed needles) length 20cm & a darning/tapestry needle.

Yarn
Jamieson’s of Shetland 2 ply jumper weight 100% Shetland wool yarn ~ can use an equivalent 4 ply jumper weight yarn. If using an alternative yarn, check the tension is equivalent to Jamieson’s 2ply Spindrift 100% real Shetland Wool.

Nort Ness, in Shetland dialect, means North Headland. Design inspiration came from Shetland’s geographical position, located in the North Atlantic, surrounded by sea, with about 100 islands (less than 20 inhabited). There are many headlands around Shetland’s coast, with Eshaness being one of the most dramatic and well-known. There is a Fair Isle star pattern in the body of the beanie and the crown nods towards ‘da cauld nort’ winds, snow & ice.
