Oldtimer Sweater
Here we have another version in my Oldtimer series.
A sweater knitted top-down with a European shoulder construction. Distinctive side panels, a boat neck, and a beautiful stranded pattern. On the sleeves, which end in a wider 2×2 rib section, a paraphrase of the body pattern has been added. The back is shaped differently depending on how large the difference is between the sweater’s width and the wearer’s actual body measurements. Everything is explained in the pattern. In addition, there is a split rib and a wonderful fit.
You can choose a much greater contrast between MC and CC than the one used in this tango-inspired colour combination. You can see my other Oldtimer variations for inspiration.
The yarn used is Ístex Lettlopi:
8, 8, 9, 10 skeins MC and 2, 2, 3, 3 skeins CC.
I wash Lettlopi like this and get the most beautiful garment. A large tub filled with the hottest water that comes from the tap. Add wool soap that does not need to be rinsed out. Lay the sweater on top of the water and leave it there until it sinks under the water by itself. Leave it there until the water has cooled to room temperature. Pour off the water. Let the sweater drain. Then place it in the washing machine and spin at 800 rpm. Block it (it can easily be blocked up to 5 cm wider, for example) and let it dry to the desired measurements.
Enjoy.
