Polar Beanie
The Polar Beanie has been my go to beanie for years. It’s quick to knit, super warm, and goes with everything. The beanie is worked in 1x1 ribbing from the cuff to the crown. You can knit it with the yarns suggested in the pattern or make a leftover yarn version by holding multiple strands together.
SIZE INFORMATION:
Sizes: 1 (2)
Size fitting: Sizes 1 (2) are designed to fit a head circumference of 54–58 (59–63) cm 21¼–22¾ (23¼–24¾) inches.
Choosing the size: Measure your head circumference at the widest part of your head, just above the ears. If your head measures, for example, 56 cm 22 inches, the corresponding size is 1. If your head measurement falls between two sizes, such as 58.5 cm 23 inches, I recommend rounding up to size 2.
DETAILS:
Yarn: 185 (200) g Wool and the Gang Crazy Sexy Wool or We Are Knitters The Wool
(200 g / 80 m 87 yds)
Leftover yarn option: If you’d like to knit the beanie using leftover yarn, hold multiple thinner strands together to achieve the correct gauge. When one of the strands runs out, add a new strand so that the overall yarn thickness remains the same throughout the project. Please note that the yardage may vary a little depending on the yarn combination used.
Example yarn combination for the leftover yarn beanie:
2 strands of worsted-weight yarn + 1 strand of DK-weight yarn + 1 strand of sport-weight yarn + 2 strands of lace-weight yarn
Needles: 10 mm US 15 / 40 or 60 cm 16 or 24 inches circular needles and 10 mm US 15 DPNs. The suggested needle size is indicative and you should choose the needle size based on your knitting tension to achieve the correct gauge.
Other supplies: stitch marker, measuring tape, scissors, tapestry needle, and a 20 cm
8 inches piece of durable leftover yarn (for example, thicker sock yarn)
Gauge: 8 sts x 12 rows = 10 x 10 cm 4 x 4 inches in 1x1 rib, worked on 10 mm US 15 needles. The swatch should be gently blocked.
