The Pomegranate scarf is a modern take on a 1940s-style scarf designed for Aran (worsted-weight) wool. There is a keyhole fastening to allow one end to thread through the other. The scarf is a perfect for under winter jackets and coats. Ideal as a Christmas Gift.
The pattern was originally designed to be knit on 5 mm knitting needles in West Yorkshire Spinners Blue Faced Leicester Aran Solids (now discontinued), the following are also suitable: West Yorkshire Spinners Colourlab Aran yarn, The Croft Shetland Aran or Malabrigo Worsted.
Materials
1 100g ball West Yorkshire Spinners Colourlab Aran (100% wool, 166 m/182 yrds per 100g)
A pair of 5 mm (UK 6, US 8) knitting needles
An additional 4.5 mm (UK 7, US 7) or 5 mm knitting needle
A tapestry needle
A stitch holder
A 5 mm crochet hook
Techniques
Casting on, Casting off, Garter Stitch (knit every row). Joining two pieces of fabric together (see photo-illustrated technique), Rib (K1 P1), Shaping (increasing and decreasing), provisional cast on (optional, see photo-illustrated technique)
