Port Townsend Hat is an all-stockinette stashbuster designed to be as flexible as your yarn bin. Wear it with a folded brim for a snug fit or unfolded for a relaxed slouch. Adjust the stripes however you like; bold and colorful or simple and minimal.
Sizes range from baby to adult, and it pairs perfectly with the Port Townsend sweater.
Buy the sweater pattern and receive the hat free, or knit the hat on its own.
Design Details
The clean stockinette fabric makes this a great canvas for playing with color. Stripe widths and palette are completely customizable, so you can use leftovers, mini skeins, or coordinated yarns.
It’s simple, wearable, and easy to knit more than one once you start.

Construction Overview
The hat is worked in the round from the brim to the crown. After the ribbed brim, the body is knit in stockinette with optional striping. Crown decreases shape the top for a clean finish.
Yarn Notes
Our samples use West Wool Tandem DK (100% Merino Wool, 254 yds / 233 m per 100g). It has a soft hand with enough structure to keep the brim neat and the stitches crisp after blocking.
Because the design is stockinette, yarn choice really shows. Tonals, solids, or scrappy combinations all work well.
