Port Townsend is a DK v-neck raglan sweater inspired by easy coastal style and everyday wearability. With clean lines and customizable stripes, it works just as well with short sleeves for warmer days as it does with long sleeves for breezy evenings.
It’s a straightforward, relaxing knit that lets the yarn and color choices take center stage. The simple silhouette makes it an easy wardrobe piece and a great foundation for playing with stripe placement and palette.

Design Details
The focus of Port Townsend is versatility. The striped body and sleeves can be customized to suit your yarn and your style, from subtle neutrals to high contrast color combinations.
A folded ribbed collar finishes the neckline neatly, and the proportions are designed to work well for both short and long sleeve versions.
Pattern Highlights
- Adjustable stripe layout for stash or planned palettes
- Short or long sleeve options included
- Clean v-neck raglan shaping
- Folded rib collar for a polished finish
- Easy everyday sweater silhouette
Construction Overview
Port Townsend is worked from the top down. The sweater begins flat to shape the V-neck, then transitions into raglan increases.
The yoke uses a compound raglan, meaning the increase rate changes throughout the yoke for each size to improve fit. After dividing for sleeves, the body is joined and worked in the round and finished with 2x2 ribbing.
Sleeves are picked up and worked in the round with instructions for both short and long sleeve versions. The folded rib collar is picked up along the neckline and decreased at center front for a smooth fit.
Yarn Notes
We knit our samples in West Wool Tandem DK (100% Merino Wool, 254 yds / 233 m per 100g). It has a balance of softness and structure that holds the raglan shaping and stripes beautifully after blocking.
This sweater works especially well with solid or tonal DK yarns. The pattern suggests five body stripes and seven sleeve stripes for the long sleeve version, but you can adjust the number and width of stripes however you like.
