I am super excited to share this axolotl crochet pattern with you. As you can maybe guess from my “pro” name Craft Alotl, I love love love axolotls. They are fabulous creatues from Mexico and they are so cute. Perfect as an amigurumi theme.

At Christmas two things happend - I was gifted some gorgeous Marriner Get Cosy Super Chunky Yarn (in pink and cherise) and I saw this adorable “potato lamp” in a shop. I LOVED the potato shape. It was so fun. Then I somehow decided I need to make this potato shaped axolotl…. it is perfect as a doorstop (if filled with rice - you will need about 1 kg) or as a great big squishy axolotl plushie if you only use stuffing. I was so chuffed. I had to make again, but this time using my favourite ricorumi cotton yarn. So fun!

So here we have the finished pattern for you. I got a bit hooked, and made a whole set of potato pets (cat, hamster, pug etc), but I still need to type up the patterns. In the meantime.. enjoy the axolotl!

I used 10mm needles for the plush. And it is about 8inch tall.
I used 2mm needles for the small toy and it is about 3inch tall.

My crochet tends to be on the small side, your final versions may be al little bigger.

The instructions mainly us single crochet, but the paws are used by making a mini bobble stitch. I have included written instructions for this - but there is also a video link. You will see these are quick to make - only 45sec! You can simply leave out the paws, if you find the bobble stitch intimidating.. it would still be a super cute make!
