This hat is very stretchy and flexible in sizing. My head measures 22 inches and I can comfortably wear sizes 3, 4 and 5. I prefer sizes 3 and 4 because I like a fitted hat. I’m wearing size 4 in the cover photos in Malabrigo Rios, Sunset 96. If you like a more slouchy look you could go up a size or add a lace repeat or two for a longer hat.

This hat is knit in the round starting with your smaller needles and knitting the 1x1 twisted rib. You’ll then switch to your larger needles and knit the lace portion. Your hat is finished by knitting the 1x1 twisted rib crown decrease section, which creates a lovely spiral star. When you have too few stitches left on your needles to continue knitting comfortably, transfer stitches to DPN’s. If magic loop is your preferred method of knitting small circumferences, that works just as well.
