Knit this easy cowl in soft worsted-weight/aran wool—the combined brioche and garter stitch have a great cozy texture. While there’s some extra tools needed for setup and finishing, the work is portable, and it goes fast at this gauge!

Provisions Cowl can be approached as a weekend project, and has a textured, satisfying result. Choose a soft, lofty wool that works next to your skin, and you can work this one up in just a few hours in just one 210 yard ball or skein of yarn—Malabrigo Rios would work well, and the sample is shown in Patons Classic Wool Worsted. This design loosely matches the Provisions Hat.

Materials:

• 200-210yds of worsted weight/light aran; sample shown is Patons Classic Wool Worsted in New Denim
• one 16” circular needle in US7/4.5mm, or size needed for gauge, used to work flat
• stitch marker
• tapestry needle for weaving in ends
• smooth scrap yarn for provisional crochet cast-on
• crochet hook, size F/3.75mm or size suited to yarn
• spare needle in size needed for gauge, or close

Gauge:
Gauge is 16 sts and 36 rows over 4”/10cm of moderately blocked garter stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge.

Measurements:
As shown, this cowl is about 16”/41cm deep from collar to triangle point, and 11”/28cm across the top opening, measured flat. It’s about 22”/56cm circumference.
