Qua Quilt Baby Blanket
This super soft but durable, slightly textured baby blanket is designed to be the kind of blanket a kid grows up with, takes with them everywhere, and maybe even sneaks into their suitcase when they go off to college. The superwash merino wool makes for a warm but not at all scratchy hug, and the added detail of a flower or two gives the whole design a personal, custom touch - something every lovingly hand-knit item deserves.
The pattern takes almost exactly 400 grams of yarn, or four skeins of Rios specifically. If your budget is tight, you can do it with four (worst case, you end up with a slightly shorter blanket), but if you want to make the blanket a little bigger, I recommend starting with more than 400 yards and returning the extra yarn if you don’t need it.
When checking your gauge, block your gauge square before you measure. I am lazy and hate knitting gauge squares, but in this case it is worthwhile to ensure you end up with squares on your blanket, rather than funny rectangles. However, if you are cutting it close on yarn, make sure to undo the gauge square and use the yarn in the blanket - the yardage is that tight!
Although the quasi-quilt pattern adds some interest, this is still a very straightforward and easy knit, something to keep your hands busy while you watch your favorite show or visit with friends.
I hope you enjoy!
