QUINN’S PILLOW:
Celebrates the beauty of traditional quilting. This intarsia pillow is a fun dip into the Intarsia Technique for those new to it. Since the edges are all straight when you shift colors, it is a very simple way to try this technique and should yield fantastic results with little experience. The pattern asks you to use Kitchener join, but you are also welcome to bind off and sew the pieces if you prefer. This will take a little more yarn than I used. Created to accompany Quinn’s Quilt (a separate pattern).

YARN:
This Pillowcase is designed to be knit in Light Worsted or DK weight yarn. The featured yarn is a gorgeous merino made of three strands, a bit reminiscent of a one-ply. Morehouse Merino is available in a huge array of colors; Madelinetosh has a fabulous swath of hand dyed colors. The pattern would be lovely in so many choices!

NEEDLES & GAUGE:
US 7’s/4.5mm round needles. I prefer round needles for all my knitting. Straight needles could work for most of this, you may needle multiple sets. I used interchangeable needles with varying length
cables for different parts of this piece
GAUGE uses US 7’s/4.5mm in
GARTER GAUGE 20 STS to 4” and 40 Rows to 4”
STOCKING KNIT 20 STS to 4” and 28 Rows to 4”
Garter, before blocking. Remember, garter ROWS pull together before blocking. This will look like an odd gauge at first glance, but each garter ridge represents TWO actual rows. My gauge was measured in the piece, not in a swatch. Due to the malleable nature of garter and the ability to block to a preferred size AND the absence of EXACT fit for comfort/necessity, I would allow some flex in my gauge. Do not panic if you are not at an exact match, aim for close!

SIZE: Pillowcase Size = 18” SQUARE (20” Pillow Insert)
When looking for an insert for your pillow, you want to find something larger. This will make your pillow look full and nice. If you try to match the case to the insert, the cover will look like it is too big for the pillow insert.

NOTIONS:
A yarn sewing needle for Kitchener Joining & tucking in some ends. Markers if desired. Pillow insert, a little larger than the size of your finished pillow cover.

I have always admired quilting and how amazingly simple shapes, put together, can create art with color planning.
This pillow is a very simple quilting design, made to accompany the LARGER quilt design, “Quinn’s Quilt”. The front side of the pillow cover would ALSO work nicely as squares of a larger quilt either as a set of these front pieces or alternating with plain garter squares or some other set of pieces.

Yarn Choice: This piece is knit in light worsted or DK weight yarn. Make sure you DO NOT use a light DK.
