The Rainbow Marl Triangle shawl is an easy shawl pattern. It’s knit in garter stitch with an i-cord border all the way around (built-in i-cord edge along the top and i-cord bind-off at the end - no need to pick up stitches!) and a column of knit stitches in the middle.

The gradual fade is achieved by marling two strands of fingering weight yarn throughout.

Yarn
15 x 20 g mini skeins of fingering weight yarn, numbered from 1 to 15.

I used Madame Guillotine – Too Many Minis Advent Calendar (2022), 100% Bluefaced Leicester (superwash). This would be a great advent knit for any calendar, especially ones dyed as a fade!

Gauge
14 stitches and 16 rows/10 cm or 4 in (in garter stitch)
However, gauge is not crucial as this is a shawl.

Notions
5 mm needles
Stitch markers (4)
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Small scale for weighing yarn

Notes on yarn and requirements
I designed this pattern using a 15 mini skein set. You can use more or less skeins, but make sure to leave enough yarn for the i-cord bind-off: measure the edge to bind off and multiply the length (in meters) by 26, which will tell you how many meters of fingering weight yarn you need. Norman of Nimble Needles has a post here about this.

You can also use scraps as long as you have 20 g of each color you want to use.

You could also use different amounts of yarn and divide the weight of yarn you have by 4 for the sections: 1/4 for the first section of that color, then 2/4 for the second section and 1/4 for the third and so on and so forth.
