Rockhound Pullover pairs timeless cables with seamless top down construction for a sweater that fits naturally into your wardrobe. A sibling to the Rockhound Vest, it carries the same cable motifs and shaping into a full sweater, with the overall look landing somewhere between classic heritage knitwear and a modern studio wardrobe staple.

The V neckline frames the cable panels and keeps the silhouette balanced, making it easy to layer over shirts and dresses or wear on its own. Fit can shift depending on your chosen ease, from relaxed and casual to a more tailored profile.

Design Details

The cables are the focus here. They run cleanly down the front while the surrounding stockinette keeps the fabric smooth and wearable (and fun to knit!) The neckline sits open and flattering across the chest and shoulders and the proportions keep the sweater feeling intentional and put together.

The result is a sweater that reads polished but still relaxed, equally at home with denim, skirts, or layered pieces.

Pattern Highlights

  • Flexible fit depending on ease
  • Engaging cable knitting balanced with stockinette
  • V neckline that layers easily
  • Customizable body length and neckline depth

Construction Overview

Rockhound Pullover is worked seamlessly from the top down. The yoke is knit flat first to shape the shoulders, sleeves, and V neckline. After separating for the sleeves, the body is worked in the round to the hem and finished with 1x1 ribbing.

Sleeves are picked up and worked in the round in stockinette, ending with matching ribbed cuffs. The overlapping V neck collar is picked up and knit last.

Yarn Notes

Rockhound works best in DK weight non-superwash wool with clear stitch definition. Our sample was knit in Les Garçons British DK, a Bluefaced Leicester and Masham blend that gives the cables structure and depth.

Tonal and solid shades highlight the stitch work and let the cables do the talking. Superwash yarns add more drape and softness but a bit less structure than non-superwash wools.

Rockhound Pullover is designed for 2–6” of positive ease depending on your preferred fit.

Relaxed fit: 4–6” positive ease

Example: If your full bust measures 40”:
• Knit the 42” size for a closer fit
• Knit the 46” size for a more relaxed fit

For sizes 54–66”, we recommend staying at 4” of ease or less for the best fit through the shoulders and sleeves.
