Rough Draft Hat
Sometimes, when I’m in the weeds on the rough draft of a writing project, I find it helpful to stop and take a knitting break, engaging my brain in something totally different. This is a hat to be knit during those times. It has ALL THE CABLES and requires close attention for the first few rows, but is deceptively simple and intuitive once you’ve gotten going.
Sizing: 90 stitches (adult S/M, to fit heads up to 22”), 100 stitches (adult L, to fit heads up to 24”). Instructions are given for additional customization.
Yarn requirements: Solid or semisolid yarn highly recommended. 90 stitches: approx.140 yards (70g) worsted weight. 100 stitches: approx. 160 yards (80g) worsted weight. Both sizes include an approximate 10% buffer.
Suggested needles: 16” circulars in US 7/4.5mm and US 8/5.0mm + US 8/5mm in your preferred method for knitting small circumferences in the round, or sizes necessary to achieve gauge.
Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4” in stockinette.
